Use your FSA or HSA for refractive surgery at New York Eye Specialists.
New York Eye Specialists recommends using your flexible spending account or health savings account’s pre-tax dollars to pay for your vision correction procedures like LASIK and ICL.
Flexible Spending Plans (FSA)
One of the best ways to reduce your costs is with a flexible spending health plan. Many employer health plans include flexible spending accounts that allow you to set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible health care related expenses. Depending on your income and tax bracket, this could save you as much as $2000.
Contributions to these plans are made through automatic and regular deductions from your paychecks. Since the funds placed in the account are not taxed, they go much further in covering eligible medical exams. Laser Vision Correction is an eligible expense, which means that your flexible benefits options can help you pay for the correction of your nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism.
For more information on this type of plan, consult with your health insurance benefits administrator.
Health Savings Accounts (HSA)
HSA’s are tax-advantaged bank accounts that allow you to save pre-tax dollars to pay for your out of pocket healthcare costs. Many elective vision correction procedures are covered under HSA’s. To qualify for HSA savings you must first meet pre-determined requirements determined by the IRS. Some employers do not participate in HSA programs. Unlike FSA’s, there is no “use it or lose it” requirements with HSA’s. You can allow the funds to accumulate until you use them. Speak with your benefits administrator for more information.
