If you have any questions, concerns or issues regarding pterygium, please don't hesitate to contact our office or schedule an appointment.
Pterygium (pronounced tur-IJ-ee-um) is a relatively common condition that affects those who spend much of their time outdoors. As this condition often affects surfers, it is commonly referred to as Surfers Eye. That said, it can affect anyone - even children who don't wear sunglasses outdoors.
Pterygium is a non-cancerous lesion that usually grows gradually over many years. It may even stop growing completely after a certain point. In advanced cases, a pterygium can continue growing until it covers the pupil of the eye and interferes with vision.
